Newt Gingrich says that a president ‘cannot obstruct justice’

Former House Speaker and writer Newt Gingrich is one of President Trump’s most devoted supporters who on Friday said that President Trump “cannot obstruct justice.”

Gingrich claims that as the top authority in the country, Trump’s decision to fire FBI Director James Comey was completely justifiable.

“The president of the United States is the chief executive officer of the United States. If he wants to fire the FBI director, all he has to do is fire him,” said Gingrich in comments at the National Press Club, where he was promoting a new book.

Newt’s remarks sparked comments on Twitter with people saying how he had voted to have former president Bill Clinton impeached, including a column that accused him of obstructing justice.

His remarks follow after President Trump tweeted earlier that day that he was under investigation for firing James Comey from the bureau.

“I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt,” Trump wrote on Twitter.

It is still uncertain what information Trump had used to make the assertion. The President was probably referring to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who wrote a message in May asking about James Comey’s management of the investigation into Hillary’s illegal use of a private email server for work while serving as secretary of state.

The former speaker of the House even attacked special counsel to the Russia investigation Robert Mueller for making a teak of people who oppose the President.

”Mueller is surrounding himself with people that are conducting a witch hunt,” commented Gingrich.
